Discover is a pilot program, this means that is being built with the intention to learn and continue to develop and shift to meet the needs of the communities we partner with.
IDENTIFYING YOUR GIFT
Discover is the first initiative to invite these girls into considering that they have a gift & identifying what their gift may be.
Part of identifying your gift is recognizing where you have come from, where you are right now, and where you may go.
We want young people to know that their mental health is incredible important when it comes to their entire well being.
Acknowledging that suffering is a reality and creating a space to explore this concept as vulnerability as a strength rather than a weakness.
Discover:Surf has specifically been curated to meet a need and want of the community The Giving Gifts is coming alongside.
About a year ago I had an opportunity to run an event for this community while working at TerraNova and there were so many girls stoked to get in the water. We were totally unprepared for that and didn't have enough time or instructors to get every girl out in the water.
There are about a million reasons why surf works as an incredible tool when it comes to digging into this process of identifying your gift. The ocean is a place of healing, learning, growth, vulnerability, connection, and of course fun!
To learn anything new requires an amount of vulnerability, especially surfing. Trusting your instructor, learning to fall, getting back on the board, facing the waves. Discover:surf will be using Surf as a tool to connect and develop relationship!
