Happy last Monday of the year!!!
Over breakfast a few days ago, I found myself asking a overused question: “What are you looking for in the new year?” It was quickly met with, “Uhhh, not this question.” On my drive home, I realized how much that question really does fall short in a lot of ways.
The beginning of a new year comes with a lot of pressure—to change, plan, reset, or move forward. And I think sometimes we overlook what already is. The rhythms, habits, and moments we’ve built over time don’t always need to be completely replaced to make room for “new.” They might even be worth celebrating and strengthening.
At the same time, I think the beauty of the new year is the opportunity to recognize what can shift and change. It’s a chance to acknowledge parts of our lives where we might feel a little stuck or even afraid to change. Growth and learning often require sacrifice but can also bring about a newness we deeply desire.
So instead of only looking forward, I want to invite you to reflect with me on what this year has been and what the continuation of the days can bring. Here are a few considerations:
When you look back on the past year, what is something you’re proud of, something that brought you joy, a fear you faced, and a challenge you navigated?
When you think about the new year, is there anything you want to look different?
What is a rhythm you've created this year that you’re looking forward to continuing?
Is there a new-to-you rhythm you’d like to bring into 2025?
I’m thinking through these myself, and if you’d like to exchange some thoughts, I’d love to hear from you. There are some aspects of life I’m so excited to see how they continue to unfold—some new, some not new, and some I’m sure I don’t even know about yet!
So heres to celebrating what already is, welcoming what’s to come, and recognizing that life as a gift in the mix of it all.
Very thankful,
Cas
